What is a User Persona?
User Persona is a fictional profile that represents a target user group, created based on real research data such as interviews, surveys, product usage behaviors, etc. The purpose of the persona is to help the design and development team gain a deeper understanding of the end users, thereby creating solutions that better meet their needs, goals, and real usage contexts.
What does a user persona include?
Name and avatar (fictional)
Basic information: age, job, technology proficiency
Goals when using the product
Pain points or issues they are facing
Digital behavior, commonly used devices, usage environment
Can include: actual user quotes, demographic data, etc.
Real example:
Trang – 27 years old – Content Creator
Uses tools like Notion, Figma, Canva
Wants: to easily organize content, share with teammates
Pain point: slow app load, hard to find old files
👉 When designing a note-taking app, you will prioritize the smart search, tag, fast load features over fancy effects.
Why is User Persona important in UX/UI?
A persona is not just a beautiful profile, but a tool to connect the development team with real users. Instead of designing based on vague assumptions or feelings, personas help:
Make user-centered design decisions.
Prioritize features, interaction flows, or content that meets specific needs.
Create consensus within the team: Everyone focuses on the "sample user" such as Anna – Marketing Executive or Khoa – final year student.
